Cognitive Load Type Measurement in Simulation and Beyond: Validity Argument for the Cognitive Load Assessment Scales

Dr. Greer will discuss cognitive load measurement in simulation, present an evolving validity argument for the Cognitive Load Assessment Scales informed by Kane’s framework, and examine future directions for cognitive load type measurement in simulation and the clinical workplace.

About the Speaker:

Sara Greer, MD

Sara Greer, MD is a pediatric intensivist at Washington University/St. Louis Children’s Hospital and is the Assistant Medical Director of the Howard and Joyce Wood Simulation Center.  She studies simulation instructional design informed by cognitive load theory.  Her research program has focused on building a validity argument for novel measures of cognitive load types in both the simulated environment and the clinical workplace.  She ultimately aims to identify modifiable elements of simulation instructional design and the resuscitation environment that can optimize cognitive load, improve learning outcomes, and perhaps modify clinician behaviors and patient outcomes.  In this presentation, she will discuss an evolving validity argument for the Cognitive Load Assessment Scales, informed by Kane’s framework, as well as future directions for cognitive load type measurement in simulation and the clinical workplace.

What is Grand Rounds?

Occurring 3 to 4 times per year, Grand Rounds provides an opportunity for networking and creating new relationships for collaboration and peer mentorship. This webinar style event highlights the work of a diverse group of health professionals and features multiple perspectives, including simulation research and non-traditional scholarly projects
